How To Prepare For The Argentavis
Taking on an Argentavis is a difficult task. It can also be just as dangerous even if you are of the right level. You’ll need to prepare for the hunt.
Items | Usage |

Weapons | Equip a Longneck Rifle or Crossbow. Bring some Tranq Darts or Arrows along. |
Narcotics | For keeping the Argentavis knocked out until it's tamed. Narcoberries are among the most basic things to use. |
Raw Meat, Superior Kibble | You’ll need these to tame the Argentavis when it’s knocked out. Kibbles work faster, but Raw Meats will also do. |
Trap Materials | Make sure you craft Stone structures like Double Doorways and Double Doors. You’ll need them for the trap. |
If you look at where they are on the island, you’ll know why you needed to be of a certain level. They frequent mountainous and snowy regions in the ARK. Some common locations include:
- The Mountains, The Island
- The Redwoods, The Center
- The Tundra biome, Ragnarok
- The Abberation biome, Valguero
An experienced survivor would know these places to be dangerous. Predators and other threats are often found here, so always be on the lookout.
How To Trap The Argentavis
The Argentavis is a flying, agile creature. You have to trap it to capture it. It will help you tame it faster and make capturing it easier. There are many ways to trap the prehistoric raptor, but the Doorway trap remains the most basic and effective.
Methods | How To Do It |

The Trap | Create a structure where you place three Double Doorways--two on top of each other, and one parallel to them. It should stand on a Stone Platform with a Stone Trapdoor as roofing. Place Stone (or Wood) Fences on either side. Your smaller dino (a Pteranodon) should be able to fly through. The Argentavis shouldn't be able to follow through. |
Luring | Fly to the Argentavis and trick it to follow you. You can optionally use a bait to lure it into the traps. Make sure to stay in front of it so its attention towards you lures it into the trap. |
Build these tools to knock the Argentavis out. Make sure that you’ve researched these items before going to capture the creature.

You must monitor the Argentavis’ torpor levels. If it looks like it’s about to wake up, use additional tranquilizers.
How To Tame And Equip The Argentavis
Once the Argentavis is out, it’s time to begin the taming process. You can also plan how to care for it once it’s among your stable of dinos.

Feeding | The Argentavis’ appetite consists of Raw Mutton, Prime Meat, and Superior Kibble. Place these in its inventory to feed it. Among the three, Kibble is the most effective feed to speed up the taming. |
Use Narcotics | You can use Narcotics to keep the Argentavis knocked out. A quicker and easier way is to also use Narcoberries. Keep an eye on its torpor and feed these as needed. |
To ensure you're fully prepared, use taming calculators available on various ARK community websites to determine the exact amount of food and narcotics needed. Bring extra, as well, just in case.
When you’ve successfully named your new Argentavis, it’s time to keep it safe! Your new dino and mount should be well-equipped for the many fights ahead.
